I’m Gareth, and I am a CWaCer, meaning that I am a councillor on Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC, see?).
MY WARD.
In May 2011 I had the honour of being re-elected to the council to serve the new Ledsham & Manor Ward in Ellesmere Port.
CURRENT APPOINTMENTS.
- Deputy Mayor of Ellesmere Port & District, 2011-12
- Assistant Executive Member
- Chairman of the Smarter Services Altogether Better Task Group
- Deputy Chairman of the Corporate Scrutiny Committee
- Member of the Audit & Governance Committee
- Chairman of the Constitution Working Group
- Member of the Community Governance Review Committee
HISTORY
I first stood for election to Cheshire County Council in 2001 but despite a large swing in my favour I did not win the Sutton & Manor Division (later won by my sister in the 2008 elections to CWaC)
In 2001 I was elected to represent the residents of Ledsham ward and became the youngest person ever to serve on Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council.
I was elected Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group in 2004, a position I held until the Borough Council was abolished in 2009. I was elected to the new Cheshire West & Chester Council in 2008 for the Ledsham & Willaston ward.
During my time as a councillor I have served on just about every committee of the old Borough Council including Planning and Resources and in my first term on the new Council I was the Chairman of our Community Forum, served on Audit & Governance Committee, was the Deputy Chairman of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, and a member of the Policy Development Boards for Children & Education along with Culture & Recreation.
From 2010-2011 I had the honour to be elected as the Mayor of Ellesmere Port and District, again, the youngest person to hold that position to date.
A BIT ABOUT ME.
I am 32, live in Great Sutton and have been a secondary school teacher for almost a decade.
In my free time I enjoy photography, performing in the theatre (or, failing that, just watching), travel and I have a penchant for cars.
